Gordon
Forster, late of William Tillman,St James Street, London, would like to share
with you his love and understanding in the care and manufacture of fine furniture.
As part of his apprenticeship in the Tillman workshops in Borough Green, Gordon
learnt to appreciate and enhance the natural beauty of wood and to combine this
with the principles of good design. |
|
| |
| During
the 70's and 80's he rose from an apprentice to be the foreman in the Polishing
shop where he was responsible for quality control and all aspect of manufacturing
and restoration. He worked on many of the prize winning pieces and helped restore
much of the antique furniture sold in the St James Steet show rooms. |
|
Now working from his home and workshops in Westwell, Nr Ashford Kent, Gordon can
offer 30 years of experience to advise on the restoration and refinishing of antique
and other good quality furniture. In addition to preserving existing pieces Gordon
will design and manufacture new furniture as a special commission. He is quick
to point out that furniture does not have to be old to be of fine quality and
some of the excellent hand made reproduction and bespoke furniture gives as much
pleasure to the owner as pieces from a previous period.
Recent
commissions include a top London Hotels in Cadogan Gardens (see links page) where
Gordon has been responsible for maintaing their antique furniture in first class
condition. Other customers include Bernie Ecclestone, The Bank of Kuwait, Ashford
Civic Centre and Inca Interiors. |

|
Gordon has many
happy memories from his early days with William Tillman and has a passion for
preserving the fine furniture designed and built by this man of tallent and inspiration.
Pieces have been sold throughout the world and Gordon would like to hear from
anyone owning this furniture and would be pleased to advise on its care and and
general well being. He
would also be pleased to hear from anyone wishing to buy or sell Tillman furniture. |
|
Restoration
is not the same as repair and to regain the former splendour of the piece while
maintaining the character from its passage through life requires an affinity with
the material, the design and its history. |
|
| | | In
addition to traditional restoration Gordon has wide experience of working with
insurance companies to return pieces to their original condition following fire
or flood damage. | | |
| Gordon
will be pleased to hear from anyone requiring further information or advice. |
